Y2K+

Y2K+ is a fashion & culture magazine created by Caitlin Woudstra and Kaitlin Grant. The project reflects on the resurgence of 2000s fashion, technology, and visions of the future from the beginning of the new millennium. The project is also a clothing and accessories curation project; we have sourced the majority of the magazine’s looks from thrift stores over a period of over 5 years. These items, along with the Y2K+ magazine, debuted at their first event, Vintage Thrift Show, at Detroit’s Eastern Market in October 2023.

Graphic Design

Print

I created much of the design in Y2K+ after thorough research into 2000s design trends. With this being a completely independent project, I was in charge of ensuring the magazine was ready for print. This includes steps like color management, checking file resolution, and properly adjusting page bleeds.

Digital

In addition to the Y2K+ magazine, we maintain a website as well. I utilized a Windows Tumblr theme and modified it with CSS and HTML. For the site’s “Explore” page, I created headers that highlight various topics covered in the project.

Photography

Y2K+ photos are a combination of concepts, styling, photography and color grading by both Kaitlin and me. My editing focused on specific stylistic elements like retouching, object removal, and recreating aesthetics from source material.
